Hughes Circuits Inc. - legal threats against a blocklist! P.S. The threat was retracted, with apologizing. Removed from the blocklist. The company is a manufacturing company and DOES NOT send out any type of spam, not even opt-in newsletters. All email is business related with customers. Unfortunately, Spews.org has blocked every San Diego region Mpower customers IP address: see http://www.spews.org/html/S1367.html "208.57.87.0 - 208.57.93.255, mpowercom.net " I am truely suprised to discover how many of our customers use Spews.org for their spam blocking. I would have been overjoyed if I had discovered this resource prior to having our company blocked!!! However, we have been blocked and we are completely innocent!! Our IT department is recieving a lot of bounced messages. Average manufacturing orders run in the thousands of dollars, and this is really affecting their ability to quote jobs. If Spews.org does not remove our IP address, we only have one option, and that is to migrate our entire email system to another ISP. This will be no easy task! Please remove 208.57.87.5 from the list, it serves as a company email system for hughescircuits.com, a honest manufacturing company. If it is not removed, I will have no choice but to seek some court order. I do not want to do this, as I believe that Spews.org may be a valuable resource against stopping spam. HOWEVER, there must be some balance struck between stopping spam and stopping legitimate email. At the least I would like to know why it is appropriate to block over 700 small businesses email because of one spammer. I hope this message does not cause a lot of flames, I seek only to get my company's email system back to status quo. Any questions, please address them to: jdhughes@[spam]ureach.com (I'm afraid to put any other contact information out publicily). Or, please reply to this thread. I was only hot under the collar because my company lost a bid due to the customer failing to recieve a quote. I ment and mean no harm to the Spam filtering community, and I'm totally against SPAM. I recieve tons of the crap daily, and I'll look into some of these spam filters. However, I had no idea that a small company could get caught in the middle, unsuspectingly, like this. It seems unfair. However, thanks to your assistance, we have a game plan to get everthing working again. It was not ment to be a threat, but to anyone who interpreted that way, I apologize unconditionally. I do not wish any of you to recieve email from ANY company you do not wish to recieve. After your colorful and informative posts, I now know better. Thank you all, but especially those who do so politely. Some question whether a court order would be possible, and I believe you are correct in determining it wouldn't be possible. Whether or not their are debatable legal theories to get Spews to remove an IP address, I don't wish to explain as there is no need to provide legal theories to spammers. an offer of peace: If anyone here ever identifies a spammer in Southern California, I'll be more than happy to prosecute the case on your behalf, without cost. Just forward me the information which identifies them and shows they violated CALIFORNIA BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONS CODE SECTION 17538.4 http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displaycode?section=bpc&group=17001-18000&file=17530-17539.6 I hope you accept my sincere apologies, Joe
