Let's take a look at ol' S2537, shall we? (Listed below) Yes, it's rather large, but Google should have a chance to archive it, right? DAMN! It's too big for the AOL news agent. Also, Optigate seemed to be awfull cozy with Snotty Scotty, didn't I read where you and he shared the same lawyer? (Snotty's Father.) Care to comment? Thank You If I had to guess, Spamhaus is not "happy" with you because you embraced world-class spammers for so long and only recently and reluctantly discovered how bad they were for long-term business. They may have unlisted you because you no longer meet their listing guidelines. But to say anyone in the world is "happy" with a Scott Richter-harboring operation is stretching it a bit far, IMHO. Can you discuss how deep your new change of heart extends? We have heard from other spam-embracing providers before that they might turn back to the dark side if they don't get out of all the blocklists right away? What can you say to convince folks that you will not backslide? I mean, it's unprecedented to see a SPEWS record contain this amount of editorial comment: "More spam has been pumped from Optigate's network than from any other network in the world (fall 2003-present), a "proud" bunch these guys must be. Worst spam network on earth, the "AGIS" of the 21st century. Probably partner of Scott Richter spam gang. Do not > reply to spamtrap@library.lspace.org The fine folks at Spamhaus asked us the folowing questions: 1) Why the change in hosting policies at Optigate? What brought this about? 2) Are these changes documented on-line any place? An AUP? Contract text? 3) If not, what are your "no spam" policies? How do we know they will be enforced? 4) Will representatives of Optigate/Calgate lie to us in the future as Mr. Wolfe did in the past? 5) Will Optigate/Calgate misrepresent the truth to its clients and upstream network hosts in the future? 6) Is Steven Richter, of Goodman & Richter representing Optigate/Calgate in any matter or manner? And here is the reply we sent them. I figured the SPEWS community would like to see this too if they haven't already received it from Spamhaus. This came from top management here at Optigate. 1. OptiGate changed our hosting policies due to the pressure brought by Spamhaus to either eliminate certain customers who were email marketers or continue to have our entire network listed. Though OptiGate does not agree with the practices of Spamhaus, business necessity caused us to change this policy. Email marketers were a relatively small part of the OptiGate business. The major part of our business revolves around providing services to businesses and institutions. The blocks put in place by Spamhaus were affecting those large customers. The listed email marketers are too much of a business nuisance and not worth the trouble to carry them. We recognized this situation several months ago, however due to contract term issues it took a while to get them off. Our current contracts allow us more control over this situation and we anticipate we will be able to act more quickly if the issue arises in the future. 2. Our highest business growth area appears at this time to be in serving the internal and commercial needs of businesses and governmental institutions including off-premises storage and WAN management. The email marketing business has not grown for some time and the margins there have deteriorated. We don't see ourselves re-entering that arena at any time, particularly as it is so disruptive to our core business. 3. To our knowledge, OptiGate has severed its relations with all Spamhaus listed email marketers, including Scott Richter and his companies. As the Spamhaus listings are so disruptive to our primary customers, we intend to continue to monitor those listings and either satisfactorily resolve the listing or drop the customer. (spamhaus has listed a very smalltime mailer since this was written and we are working with them to resolve this - Doug) 4. Steven Richter does not represent OptiGate. We do not anticipate him or his firm doing work for us. 5. The company name CalGate was formally changed to OptiGate several years ago. They are the same entity and the same practices apply to each. ========================================================== -- Comments posted to news.admin.net-abuse.blocklisting are solely the responsibility of their author.
