However, lately - as in within the past month or so - I've noticed that their "zero-tolerance" policy seems to have turned into something more along the lines of "warn 'em and give 'em another week". On Thursday, I received a piece of spam from a rackshack customer. Considering that there were 13 instances of this spam in .sightings, I figured this to be a slam-dunk. Silly me. Larted abuse@rackshack.net and abuse@ev1.net on the 20th Site still up Larted abuse@rackshack.net and abuse@ev1.net on the 21st Site still up Had the following conversation with Patrick Smith of Rackshack on their user forums: http://forums.rackshack.net/showthread.php?s=&postid=126142#post126142 Mr. Smith then closed the thread before I had a chance to make a final reply.Moderators can do that sort of thing when they're afraid you're going to call them on their bullshit, you see. Anyway, as of 2am EST 3/22/2003, the site I originally larted on, as well as the site discussed in the thread above, are both still alive. The following is what I just emailed to Mr. Smith, with a CC: to abuse@ev1.net and abuse@rackshack.net: Patrick, The site at 64.246.0.85 , which besides emailing abuse@ about twice already, we also discussed on the forums earlier this afternoon, is still alive and well. Do you guys think you could actually kill this site, or have you redefined "zero-tolerance" to mean something other than the obvious? Since you so boldly closed the thread in question: http://forum.rackshack.net/showthread.php?threadid=19996 before giving me a chance to respond, I'll address your post here: > We received spam complaints and WARNED the customer as we stated. But > we dont go cancelling everyone everytime we receive 1-2 spam > complaints. If someone you are unaware of spams from your server, > would you like us to cancel your account after we receive a complaint? My point has eluded you completely. You were made aware of these two particular individuals, presented with plenty of evidence of their spam AND the blacklistings they have caused you, yet the sites are both still up. What happened to the almighty "zero tolerance" policy that you guys made a big point of upon making it official several months back? It's really starting to become more and more obvious that you take no action whatsoever until such time as you find yourselves listed in spews, and that your AUP regarding spam isn't worth the paper it's written on, as it were. I pointed you AND abuse@ to -thirteen- copies of the spam in question in news.admin.net-abuse.sightings, and to the current blacklistings for the IP above, as well as for the IP that was the initial subject of the thread: IP from thread: http://openrbl.org/ip/207/44/212/59.htm IP from my two abuse reports: http://openrbl.org/ip/64/246/0/85.htm What more could you -possibly- need? If you don't want to terminate these sites, that's your business, but at least be up front about it instead of waving around some bogus policy that you don't/won't enforce until backed into a corner. At any rate, I appreciate you letting me know where you and Rackshack stand on the issue - at the very least, I won't be making a fool of myself defending you guys in nanae anymore. -Bob --- There you have it - draw your own conclusions. -Bob
